What makes a care home Outstanding?
Outstanding is awarded by CQC inspectors when a home is performing exceptionally well across all five domains: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led. In practice, Outstanding homes tend to have stable, long-serving leadership, strong staff development programmes, highly personalised care plans, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Only 4.4% of rated homes achieve Outstanding — making these 599 homes genuinely exceptional. If there is an Outstanding home in your area, it is almost always worth visiting, regardless of whether it appears to be the closest option.
